Check out our new lean-to for the Soay Sheep. Our four ewes will temporarily be sharing this shelter with nine Golden Laced Wyandotte Chicks. The chicks and the Soay Sheep happily share their new covered structure to keep out of the sun.
Soay Sheep are one of the oldest known breed of sheep in the world. They are also one of the smallest. Ewes weigh 50-to-60-pounds, rams 65-to-75-pounds, and newborn lambs are the size of a bag of sugar.
The fleece may be shades of black or brown or blonde. Most have light markings on the belly, hindquarters, over the eyes and under the tail and jaw.
